Outschool Class Listing Makeover
Thanks to all of the teachers who bravely volunteered their classes and profiles for a marketing makeover!
I’m excited to bring my experience as a marketing manager for a national education brand directly to Outschool teachers.
Please take this marketing advice with your own personal beliefs and style in mind, and only implement what you feel will be helpful for you.
Let’s get started!
Remember: your class listing is a BROCHURE for your class and your teacher profile is your RESUME.
CLASS TITLE:
This teacher did a nice job describing the class here but there are a few repetitive words. I’d pare it down to the “meat and potatoes” while still including some buzz words.
Original:
Weekly Procreate Digital Drawing Camp: Make Beautiful Procreate iPad Art
Edit 1:
Digital Drawing Club: How to Make Art with Procreate
Edit 2:
Crafts and Conversation: A Digital Drawing Club
I chose to:
- delete one of the repeat words (“Procreate”)
- remove “weekly” (the type of class is listed just below the title)
- change “camp” to “club”
- I also played with a fun title for this class as another option. I really like how in this teacher video, she described her classes as “Crafts and Conversation”. I feel like that is such a welcoming title for a class and would draw (no pun intended) a nice feeling from parents.
We’ll create a catchy title, then go into a bit more detail in the short description, and fill it all out in the long class description.
LISTING PHOTO
I really love how this teacher is using their own artwork to showcase what they will create in class. I would choose a single photo rather than a collage photo. I grabbed this one from another listing and thought it was beautiful and enticing:
SHORT CLASS DESCRIPTION
Original:
In this weekly class that meets once per week, students will learn how to draw various beautiful images using the Procreate program for iOS iPad and iPhone devices.
Edit 1:
In this weekly class, students will learn how to use Procreate to create beautiful digital art.
I chose to remove the repeat phrase (weekly that meets once per week) and remove some of the detail. This is all about saying exactly what the class is in an uncluttered manner. We can give families the details about Procreate and what devices it is compatible with when we go into the longer class description.
CLASS LENGTH, PRICING, AGE RANGE, ETC…
I think the teacher did a good job here!
My only thought is that I would consider changing the class minimum to 3 to make it worthwhile to run this class. If enrollment drops below 3, then the teacher could accommodate by turning it into a shorter private lesson.
LONG CLASS DESCRIPTION
This is where the bulk of the listing exists. My first take on this class description is that my mind blurs over looking at the big block of text. When reading it, I feel like the teacher tends to jump between ideas very quickly. I feel like it is hard for me to get an immediate grasp on what the class actually is. There is very little information about Procreate, the program that this class is about.
Let’s try to break it up into helpful sections so that a parent can quickly digest this.
ORIGINAL
Do you love Procreate for iOS? I am so passionate about this app—it is drawing reimagined, fine-tuned, creative, and free of all the materials of traditional art. In this fun, informative weekly camp, students will have the opportunity to learn various Procreate techniques and create beautiful art. Many of the works we will be doing are shown in the class image above. Students will learn about clipping masks, layers, symmetry, blending, magic wand tool, brushes, animation assist, and much more! Students should have a basic understanding of the app (i.e. just familiarizing themselves with the brushes, eraser, color, magic wand, canvas, and wrench), but I am able to help every step of the way! I teach by sharing my Procreate screen on Zoom and going step-by-step through the process of drawing the images. I am kind, patient, interactive, and passionate about helping students to create their visions and learn digital art techniques. I ensure all students are guided through each step and have completed each step before moving on. Students will start each class by introducing themselves and sharing some art they created. Learners can interact with myself and with one another throughout the class. I hope you will join me for fun each week creating and exploring digital art!
EDIT
In this fun, informative weekly art club, students will have the opportunity to learn how to create beautiful art with Procreate.
Each week, students will learn the techniques necessary to create a wide variety of digital images. Students will be invited to interact with one another and their teacher, who is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP).
Procreate is drawing reimagined for iOS compatible devices. Students must have a separate iPad or iPhone to participate in this class.
This class will cover:
- clipping masks
- layers
- symmetry
- blending
- magic wand tool
- brushes
- animation assist
- and much more!
Class will start by students introducing themselves and sharing the artwork that they created using the previous week’s technique. After all students have had an opportunity to share, I will screen share my Procreate screen so that students can follow along as we learn to draw the image of the week.
I like how the teacher posted dates for which drawing would be drawn which week. I would suggest making this list even more exact.
Just post a list of the class meetings and what image will be drawn.
