Let’s talk about SCALES!

Most musicians have heard that we MUST practice scales.

… but why?

Well, if MUSIC was a painting…

…then scales are colors.

If scales are colors, then each NOTE of the scale is a certain pigment.

As musicians, it’s our job to learn how to blend pigments and utilize complimentary or opposing colors to create songs that make the listener FEEL something.

Every scale has its own unique personality, feeling, texture, and color. It’s up to us to listen to those characteristics and place them correctly for masterful effect!

So next time you’re “practicing scales”, think about the notes you’re playing.

What does the scale make you feel

what song or type of song does that feeling fit best with

Then play the scale again, keeping that feeling in mind.
