Becoming an Organization on Outschool

After teaching on Outschool for more than a year, earning over 6 figures on the platform, and amassing thousands of followers, I’m excited to look forward to becoming an “organization” on the platform. This is essentially the same as opening my own music lessons studio with Outschool as the “building”.

I’m very early in the stages of expanding my teaching business, going from “teacher” to “boss”, and I can’t wait to share the journey with you.

The first thing I did was to hire a friend to start working as a virtual assistant. She makes weekly and monthly posts on Outschool, taking some of the task work off of my back and making it possible for me to focus on blogging, hiring, training, and organizing.

For now, she is working a total of 2 hours a week.

Virtual assistant: ~$40/week

Next step for me was to choose a business name (I settled on Big Universe Music, LLC), register my website (you’re looking at it!), and set up my Facebook page. I also registered my business with the state and become an official LLC.

Business registration: $130
Domain registration: $50/year
SquareSpace Webhosting: $144/year
Facebook page: free

At this stage, I am…

  1. Working on posting all of my positive Outschool reviews to the Big Universe Facebook page. Social proof means a lot!

  2. Researching getting a logo made. Haven’t decided if I’d like to go with a friend who is a fantastic graphic designer (with a big wait time) or just grab someone from Fiverr.

  3. Starting my search for teachers! I feel like this will be my most challenging task. I know what class I would like to have taught and am trying to find a few perfect people.

  4. Researching music licensing. I prefer to use popular music and will need to make sure that all the songs are properly licensed for online classroom use.

Can’t wait to share what happens next!
